→ Reconstructing Stories
tricies aliquet.
The graduation project ‘Reconstructing stories’ aimed to answer the question about how we can help people become aware of the stories they tell themselves, and how we can reconstruct these deceiving narratives, to make a positive change. By looking at self-deception through the lens of storytelling, this book-turned-conversational tool helps you dive into personal problems at the hands of narrative therapy in a playful way.
Narrative therapy is known for using the reconstruction of stories and is a proven therapy that helps you zoom out and put situations in a new perspective. The book ‘Maps of Narrative practice’ by Michael White was used as a framework, to create the structure of the book and to have this project be grounded in theory.
The book contains multiple questions, presented on pop-outs, about any kind of problem or situation you might encounter. The answers to those questions will become part of the story by writing them down and inserting them in the book. The questions throughout the book will challenge you to rethink and reframe your view on the problem or situation, helping you to reconstruct the story you have been telling yourself by the end of the book.
As this book requires honesty and self-reflection, not only will you deepen the bond with the person in front of you, you will hopefully be able to see yourself and your situation in a different light.
